Ramsons Group has always been an impact-first and an environmentally responsible company. We believe in creating value for all our stakeholders, and our environment is no different!
Whether it is eliminating coal from our production process, using locally-sourced recycled scrap to produce high-quality green steel, or integrating renewable energy into our real estate projects and maximising it in our factories, our commitment is to grow sustainably without compromising the environment.
Through innovation and technology, Ramsons Group is paving the way towards a greener future. Our efforts to create a sustainable and eco-friendly company have earned us the UNDP award for 'Energy Efficiency'.

Steel
Steel, the backbone of any country's development, has traditionally been associated with high carbon emissions due to its production. However, at Ramsons Group, we are redefining steel production with our innovative and sustainable approach.
Our green steel is primarily manufactured from recycled scrap, significantly reducing landfill waste and saving tonnes of iron ore and limestone. Steel plays a pivotal role in futuristic industries such as electric vehicles and renewable energy. Its longevity and recyclability do not impose repeated pressure on the environment, making it a sustainable choice.
At Ramsons Group, sustainability is not just a buzzword; our actions show our commitment:
- Adopting 'Direct-Rolling' to eliminate coal from our factories, saving 1.91 tonnes of carbon dioxide per tonne of steel produced.
- Establishing smaller mills to reuse by-products within our premises, upcycling and recycling to add value while reducing carbon dioxide emissions and transportation needs.
- Installing a slag crushing plant to extract metal from slag generated during steel production, reducing waste and transportation emissions.
- Vertically integrating with a refractory business unit that converts waste paper into tundish boards used in steel manufacturing.
- Using steel scrap for production saves 1.1 tonnes of iron ore, 630 kg of coking coal, and 55 kg of limestone per tonne.
- Rapidly expanding the use of solar power across our factories.
- Using electric furnaces instead of fire-based to eliminate direct coal burning.
- Using iron ore to reduce flue gases and waste, thus achieving overall efficiency.
- Employing scrap processing techniques like sorting, grading, and shredding to further reduce energy consumption.
- Implementing rainwater harvesting, monitoring groundwater, and treating industrial wastewater for sustainable water management.
- On-going plantation of various tree species in and around our facilities.
- Awarded the UNDP's prestigious 'Energy Efficiency' award for our efforts.
Making Buildings For Tomorrow, Green
Diversifying into real estate began a decade after our entry into the steel industry, initially focusing on acquiring and selling land. Over time, we took a step forward into commercial and residential buildings, malls, as well as industrial and logistics parks.
However, we maintained our sustainable DNA while foraying into real estate. Our commitment to green building practices made us stand apart:
- Using Eco-Cement to construct buildings, made from crushed artificial sand and fly ash, with a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional cement.
- Incorporating green steel manufactured by Ramsons, produced through the 'Direct-Rolling' process to construct environmentally-friendly structures.
- Implementing green technologies such as HVAC designs for efficient Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
- Installing solar panels to promote renewable energy integration across our projects.
What’s Next?
Building a greener future involves not only making significant changes but also adopting small practices, all while maintaining our focus on sustainability. One such example is our transition from paper invoices to automated digital invoices sent via direct messaging. We are digitising all our business operations to become a less-paper office. Another example is using e-rickshaws in the factory for small material transport over short distances.
Our leadership team’s efforts to create a greener and better world are globally recognised. Mr. Rajat Sarda was the youngest member of a delegation organised by GIZ Energy Efficiency in Industry and Data-Knowledge Exchange Tour in Europe. He was a part of the delegation constituting five representatives from the steel industry and among ten top-level government bureaucrats from across the globe. During the tour, he engaged with various organisations, including KfW, GIZ, and the World Steel Association, and visited multiple industries to exchange knowledge on energy efficiency practices and reducing carbon emissions.
At Ramsons, we are leveraging our expertise in sustainability to venture into new fields responsibly. For example, as we expand our agriculture business, we plan to employ sustainable methods and technologies that require less water and prevent soil pollution while producing high-quality food and vegetables. Additionally, we are increasing our green cover through tree plantations covering 100 acres around our factories and converting local patches into nature’s lungs.
Building on our DNA of vertical integration, we will continue developing businesses that synergise with our existing operations. This approach will enable us to cost-effectively add value, reduce transportation emissions, and give us opportunities to upcycle and recycle our products.
We are dedicated to becoming a carbon neutral company by 2040. We hold ourselves accountable as the trustees of a greener future, beginning with the adoption of solar power across all our factories. With advancing technology, we believe this goal is achievable over the next two decades as we innovate towards sustainability.
With the next generation of entrepreneurs in our family business focusing on technology, innovation, and sustainability, our mission is not only realistic but also within reach.
And we are determined to make it possible!
